Trainers and Independent Facilitators Vancouver and Suburbs
HELEN TANG: Vancouver & Suburbs
A few years ago, after having worked in the corporate sector for over a decade, I decided to leave my job as a Certified Management Accountant in a large corporation. I had been struggling for two years over leaving a position that was comfortable, secure and well compensated. Yet, at the same time, I felt suffocated by the thought of spending the rest of my life doing something that did not inspire me and was not in alignment with my life purpose.
With the desire to fulfill my highest potential and live a meaningful life, I embarked on a journey of healing and transformation. During this process, I realized that my passion was working with people to help them grow and find purpose and meaning in their lives. I took the necessary training and became a Registered Professional Counsellor (Cand.) and a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist.
In the last few years since following my career transition, it became more and more clear to me that my longing and desire was to live a conscious, intentional and purposeful life. I have found Nonviolent Communication (NVC) to be a great tool in helping me focus my attention inward and stay connected to my core. Whenever I am connected, my body is filled with feelings of aliveness and joy. This connection is what motivates me to immerse myself in NVC consciousness. NVC serves as a reminder to me that the pathway to my life force energy is through self-honesty and compassion.
It is through connecting with myself that I discover my strong desire for connection with others. I feel passionate about helping and assisting others find their path to conscious living, whether it be in the role of a parent, as an employee, as a husband or wife, or as a son or daughter. Being involved with the NVC practice group fulfills my need for connection, contribution and community. I feel honored to assist others on their journeys of personal growth.

I’m currently a graduate student in Antioch University’s clinical psychology doctoral program. I’m taking the adult concentration with a focus on health and forensic psychology. I was first introduced to compassionate communication through a course I took at Langara College with Raj Gill. I then went on to complete an intensive training with Dr. Rosenberg, and a number of courses with the NVC Training Academy.
My own challenges with shyness, anger, and chronic pain lead me to the field of psychology and motivated me to find healing amidst my suffering. Through this process I am continually reminded that qualities of experience such as fear, anger, resistance, and physical discomfort present unparalleled opportunities for developing empathy, insight, and true happiness. I believe that compassionate communication is a powerful tool for catalyzing this process and creating peace from the inside out.

CATHERINE STRICKLAND: Vancouver & Suburbs
I am passionate about helping people bring more harmony, authenticity and connection into their lives through effective communication. I believe that our habitual patterns of communication often result in misunderstanding, conflict and isolation. Effective and compassionate communication is particularly important in parent/child relationships where attachment and trust are essential to the healthy emotional development of the child.
I offer communications training, workshops and coaching for companies, parents, teachers and non-profit organizations that build skills to resolve conflicts with more ease, support authenticity and harmony in relationships and allow people to integrate their core values into their work, school, and family relationships. I empower clients to turn challenging situations into opportunities for growth, understanding and connection.
As a parent, I have learned first hand the key role that compassionate communication brings to close parent/child relationships. Children thrive when their ideas and needs are heard and honoured and leads to a willingness to contribute to the joy of others through cooperation, love and compassion.
My professional training includes an undergraduate degree in engineering from the University of BC and a master's degree in resource and environmental management from Simon Fraser University, university study in child development, learning and learning disabilities, and six years of training in Nonviolent Communication.
