Board Of Directors

Denny Warner (Sidney)

Denny

As a parent of two young children, I felt inspired and more hopeful of achieving peace in the world, and at the very least in my home, when I was first introduced to NVC approximately 4 years ago. I have continued my own learning while looking for opportunities to find new homes for NVC in my community. I first joined the board of BCNCC as Treasurer 2 years ago and continue to serve in that capacity. It is a comfortable meeting place for me to be using my administrative and financial background to further the goals of BCNCC and the larger NVC community.

Katrina Morrison Kaneda (Vernon)

Katrina

Katrina Kaneda has been practicing and sharing Compassionate or Nonviolent Communication (NVC) with others for four years. She says of NVC, “With my background as a parent and working in schools as a certified teacher I saw this as the ‘missing piece’ in my own training and experience. I am grateful for the contribution of NVC in helping me to create the quality of relationships I want in my life.” Katrina facilitates Compassionate Communication workshops in the Okanagan region, and particularly enjoys sharing NVC with people who have children in their lives.

Carol Keane (Gabriola Isl.)

Carol Keane

Carol Keane is a passionate woman who loves people.  She coaches, counsels and facilitates Nonviolent Communication workshops.

How to live my intention and be the change I want to see in the world led me to study NVC.  I would like the opportunity to share this with you.

Ronaye Jobi (Vancouver)

My passion is to bring compassion back into the workplace and stop Bullying in the workplace. Since joining the Board in 2009 I have advocated on behalf of our Members and have heard your concerns through your feedback. For the past 22 years I have worked with people on their personal healing journey. Many of whom have experienced poverty in many forms.

My professional title is Youth Counsellor and Personal & Spiritual Life Coach. My vision is to help advocate for the poor and teach skills that will empower those who feel their brokeness. Although I feel like a newbie there is a sense in me that I am learning new skills to help others restore Compassion back into their lives and feel again.

Mary Ellen McNaughton

I am married and mother to a nineteen year old daughter.  I have 3 stepdaughters and 4 step grand-children. I work as a counselor and have been integrating NVC into my practice for about 10 years.  I started out doing person centered existential counseling and am now also branching out into mediation, couples counseling and bereavement counseling as well as teaching relational practice to nursing students at UBCO. My focus is to begin with compassionate connection to self and to facilitate harmony and connection in my world.

JB Bell (Vancouver)

J B Bell photo

JB's history includes activism in the lesbian, gay and bisexual advocacy movement in college days, a well-regarded term as President of the Lakewood Terrace Housing Co-operative, and a Bachelor's in Justice Studies from Royal Roads University. It was at RRU where he delivered a short introduction to NVC for a class with about an hours' notice, and he has shared it since with yoga groups and his favourite Buddhist sitting group,  D.I.Y. Dharma.

JB's vision for NVC is that it spread to provide much more than improved relationships. He looks forward to seeing it empower people to shake off oppression of all kinds without violence, and talks occasionally about "raising an NVC army." He is only half joking.
